Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
After studying economics, I started my professional career in banking, then 20 years in public administration. For the next 12 years, I was a consultant, particularly in events and public administrations. Today, I have chosen the path of education, and I took my diploma as an adult trainer, and the federal certificate is pending.
How did you find out about the IMSG in your career?
The IMSG was one of my mandates. I had done a lot of teaching, especially in sports. For example, I have been training officials for the official scoreboard in my activity for 40 years. At IMSG I taught economics, got a taste for it, and kept going.
Why did you choose to do an Executive Doctorate in Business Administration?
In the midst of professional reorientation, I wanted to perfect my academic career. Indeed, apart from simple personal development, the DBA is the means of channeling my professional experience in order to better transmit.
What is your subject?
In what way is a poor valuation of elite female sport potentially a social problem and a brake on the reduction of the inter-gender difference?
Why did you choose IMSG?
For different reasons: first of all for the diversity of the people present in the course, with whom I take pleasure in exchanging and comparing my points of view, but also for the quality of the speakers and the multiple themes addressed.
On the other hand, as a teacher at the IMSG, it seemed interesting to me both intellectually and professionally to be able to face the journey as a student.
Was it difficult to drop a subject?
Yes and no. No, because by entering this process, I already had a clear idea of the topic I wanted to address. And yes, because defining a precise subject becomes complicated. The number of possibilities is endless and there are many things to consider: a topic that should satisfy you without being too complex, that is of professional interest, and that could be published. It involves making a choice and choosing is giving up …
What do you think of helping each other within the group?
We created an informal group ourselves, which worked quite well up to the Covid, and since then it is a little more complicated, it is “the Desert of the Tartars [1]”. History reminds us that we should not wait for something hypothetical that will never come, or too late. So we motivate ourselves! The IMSG also offers high-level presentations regularly by quality guests. I am delighted that we can once again have these face-to-face interventions.
Do you think you have finished in 3 years?
It’s already too late, I’m in the third year! But I know that the 4th year will be the right one… or the 5th…
Do you want to publish your thesis in a book?
In book form, no. On the other hand, I have planned to do it in the form of articles that I hope to be able to publish or at least present on specialized platforms in the field of sports management, for example.
Is there a course that stood out for you?
Yes, this is the very first course in the spring of 2018. It was intended to give us pause for thought by approaching the organization of the doctorate from a strategic point of view. He brought down all my pre-built ideas, I stayed in the 20th century!
Do you have any reading to recommend?
I have a whole section of it on social sciences and sport, collected over time… But the book that made me want to do my thesis on this subject is Du sexisme dans le sport (Editions Anamosa, Paris, 2016) by Barbara Barbusse. Former handball player in the first division, she will become the first female president of a first division (male) club, then will be elected to the committee of the French Handball Federation. It is both a treatise on sociology, an explanation of gender differences and the story of an exemplary and unfairly complicated journey.
Would I advise participants who would like to get started to try an EDBA?
I spend my life doing it!
